The Process of Creating My Own Myth
Before creating my own myth, I had to read through creation myths and archetypes that are commonly presented throughout the tales. I had to familiarize myself with myths in order to discuss trickster myths in a presentation for my college course. Reading these myths, I was wondering how people were able to create and put together these ideas that flow so well together. When putting together my own myth, I was worried about my ability to make it flow together enough to appear believable. As mentioned in my previous post, I have never been good at creative writing, so I was worried it would present itself in my piece. The more I wrote, the more I enjoyed the process of creating my myth and began having fun as I was building my website.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this activity and I am certain I will be incorporating it in my future classroom. My students will be able to work creatively to create their own myths which will also allow them to practice and improve their writing skills. When students are able to work creatively, they are more likely to put more effort into their assignments, for the simple reason that they enjoy it. In my presentation, I had to find a way to connect my trickster myth to current media, and I certainly believe that with that introduction, students will be able to see the importance and relevance of myths and will be eager to begin creating a myth of their own.

Hey Gabriela, I really enjoyed reading your blog post! I really like what you said about wanting to incorporate creative writing in your future classroom. I agree with your sentiment that the more a student enjoys their work, the more effort they will put in because that has been my exact experience with creating a myth. I had a similar experience to you with writing my own myth in that I was at first nervous to do so. However, I also ended up having a good time with it, and I was able to create something that I was proud of. After this experience, I would also like to incorporate a similar creative writing assignment into my future classroom because I believe it will give students the chance to not only enjoy writing but also come up with something that they are proud of. Giving students this positive experience with writing and assignments will enrich their academic careers and help them to grow as writers.
